The best biathletes in the world have loud support from the grandstands at the IBU World Championships Biathlon 2021 Pokljuka, this time virtual. They were occupied by primary school pupils who were invited to participate by Zavarovalnica Triglav as a part of the Children of Triglav campaign in Pokljuka.
Pupils from Slovenian primary schools can virtually watch four of the 12 races at the IBU World Championships 2021 programme between 9th and 21st February. For the first time, they were able to encourage their heroes on Wednesday, when the Norwegians celebrated in the Mixed Relay race, and for the second time today, when the gold medal in Sprint was unexpectedly won by the Swede Martin Ponsiluoma. The best Slovenian biathlete was Miha Dovžan in 25th place.
Elementary school pupils will be able to watch two more races next Tuesday and Thursday. So far, close to 30 primary schools from all over Slovenia have responded, and applications are still coming.
Zavarovalnica Triglav is organizing the campaign, the purpose of which is to encourage the youngest to a healthy and active lifestyle, for the ninth year in a row, for the first time in a remote way due to epidemiological conditions.
Older generations of sports enthusiasts can also sit on the virtual grandstands of the IBU World Championships Biathlon 2021 Pokljuka. The list of races is available at the link triglav.si/pokljuka. Entries for each race are open no later than 4 pm the day before each race.
