Sweden’s biathlon head coach Johannes Lukas will miss the world championships at Pokljuka. He has to undergo shoulder surgery after falling down the stairs at the last World Cup in Anterselva, Italy, the Swedish federation reported on Tuesday. The surgery is set to take place in Munich.
Lucas will be probably out for the rest of the season, which lasts until the end of March. After the championships at the Pokljuka are following World Cup events in Nove mesto and Oslo.
“Of course it’s sad to miss the highlight of the season,” Lukas was quoted in the federation statement. “I’m convinced the team will be able to perform optimally even if I’m not present.”
“It’s very sad we can’t have Johannes with us during the peak of the season. He means a lot to the team and has done a lot of work with us,” Olympic and world champion Hanna Oeberg said.
Lukas has been in charge of Sweden’s national team since May 2019. He worked with the team before as assistant of Wolfgang Pichler.
